Be part of the community

People with disabilities need opportunities to learn, work and enjoy life in their community. Creating this life begins in childhood.

Being part of the community can involve:

  • Going to the park or the shops together
  • Going to crèches, kindergarten, playgroup and school with other kids the same age
  • Participating in activities like swimming, dancing and painting.

Getting out and about in the community gives kids the chance to enjoy a lot of experiences with their family and with others and, importantly, with kids their own age. It also gives them the chance to learn skills that will help them become more independent at home and school.

Plus, it gives you the opportunity to spend time together and develop friendships with other families.
